We are TravelPerk: a scaling unicorn valued at $1.3billion that has raised over $400m since our creation in 2015.

Backed by world-class investors with portfolios including AirBnb, Stripe, Slack, Trello, Gusto, Twitter, Farfetch and Deliveroo, our team is made up of A-players from across the travel and technology industries.

Over the past few years, we’ve been named the fastest-growing SaaS startup in the world by SaaS1000 and featured as one of the hottest startups to watch by both Forbes and Wired. We’re revolutionizing the B2B corporate travel market—worth over $1.3 trillion— to connect people in real life in an enjoyable and sustainable way.

TravelPerk are innovators. During the last year we have welcomed and acquired the likes of Click TravelNexTravel and Albatross to the team. From TravelCare, to FlexiPerk and of course GreenPerk we are shaping the future of the industry. Our team continues to emerge stronger and stronger as we adjust to the new normal—and that’s where you come in!

We are looking for a Head of Community to join the team! If you’re ready to take off with us, keep reading!

Objectives of the Role

When structuring our team we like to focus on the objectives to be achieved, not the “function”. In short, your objectives as our Head of Community will be:

  • To maintain and scale TravelPerk’s culture and mission doing whatever it takes.
      1. You will act towards achieving the Community’s team mission: Bringing TravelPerkers together over our Mission and our Culture.
      2. You will do so by building WITH the community, not FOR the community.
      3. You will seek to understand and clarify TravelPerk’s evolving culture by building a trust relationship with Avi and the Leadership team, inputting on their strategy and incorporating their advice.
  • To design, lead and implement our Community strategy supporting both, the Community Vision and the company strategy. You will also co-author and align the strategy of the Workplace, Get Together and Experience teams.
  • To lead the Community team. You will hire and retain the members of the Community team. You will own the engagement of all members of the team, and make sure high standards of performance are kept.
  • Input and influence the company and teams’ strategy: given the wide scope of Community, you will need to build strong relationships with stakeholders across the company and input/influence on their strategies so that TK’s culture is maintained and scaled.
  • To oversee all operational processes that take place in the Community team (Workplace, Get Together,...) to make sure they are delivering a 7* member experience and are aligned with our culture. You will be a point of escalation of any issues that take place in your team.
  • Represent the company: become a spokesperson for the company in events and share the culture of TravelPerk externally.

What you will do

More practically, you will do whatever it takes to achieve those objectives. These are some of the practical actions that we foresee being part of your ownership:

  • Build a team roadmap, OKRs and yearly strategy that tackles current and future challenges regarding keeping and scaling TravelPerk’s culture by integrating the main artefacts of our culture: Get Togethers, Workplace and Experience.
    • Hire, engage, retain and lead the Community team. Manage the performance of your direct reports.
    • Become a trusted partner to Avi (CEO), learn from him his vision on the company culture and propose actions to support his ideas.
    • Provide leverage to the Leadership Team by conducting analyses on recent internal developments, proposing solutions and acting as a sparring partner in discussions related to culture. Monitor the company’s progress across departments and identify areas for improvement as well as topics that require the attention of you and/or the Leadership Team.
  • Specific to the teams inside Community:
    • Audit and assess the operational excellence of the different teams inside the Community team. Identify areas of improvement and plan towards them. Coordinate company-wide and team specific projects to avoid company distractions and keep the right cadence of happenings.
    • Support the efforts of the Global Workplace Manager to build workplaces globally to accommodate for TK’s HC growth. Support in contract negotiations with key insights and stakeholder management.
    • Constantly meet with members of the community together with the Experience team to get a better sense of where things are at. Travel to hubs with the Experience team to keep a pulse on hub engagement through interviews and information gathering.
    • Support the Get Together Manager with long term planning, providers choices, and execution challenges. Be a consult in all company-wide events to ensure all members are heard and our events are built with the community.
    • Keep a pulse on the engagement of the company by analysing Community Content Ration, Organic content creation and Engagement survey results.
  • Build & develop relationships with TK’s teams and their leaders.
    • Collaborate with other functional areas (BizOps, Product, Partnerships, Sales, People Operations, Legal, Finance etc.) to ensure you become a trusted partner and an enabler. You will also share relevant feedback with them and clarify TravelPerk’s culture.
    • Be a consult in critical company projects that will have an impact in our community and culture.
    • Work together with SP&A to keep budgets and costs under budget and forecasts benchmarked.
    • Be the link between the Community and the People team to coordinate actions and projects in alignment with engagement survey results.
    • Work together with the Internal Communications team to drive comms programs forward.
    • Be a partner to the Recruitment team by both, helping convince candidates to join TravelPerk and doing cultural checks of key roles.
  • Be an observer in the EAB to keep the pulse in the issues across the company, and act on relevant information shared there.
  • Create content to promote and explain TravelPerk’s culture internally and externally: podcasts, blog articles, EOW presentations, participation in conferences, etc.
  • Lead cultural induction programs with the support of the Experience team when TravelPerk acquires companies.
  • Constantly research to bring new projects and expand the Community scope.
  • Explore the viability of the External Communities project.

On top of your responsibilities, you will also:

  • Lead by example: you will always have TravelPerk’s culture in mind when doing everything you do. As part of the Community team you will live and breathe our values and always put these first.
    • You will be a partner to members: we have a very special way of doing things in the Community team at TravelPerk. We build with the members of our Community, not for them. That’s why you will need to become a partner to all the members of the community to understand their needs, support them and create something that works for them, with them.
    • Have a strong data approach: evaluate and measure success in new ways and leverage those learnings in the development of our strategy.
